Tips for Property Managers
By recycling more and throwing away less, you can save money on your garbage costs. And green is the thing! Tenants want to live on a property that does its part to reduce its carbon footprint. The following helpful tips can make it easier for you - and your property - successfully go green!
Recycling should be just as convenient as taking out the garbage.
Keep recycling and composting carts and bins located in secure, well-lit locations in the same area as the garbage. This makes it easy for residents to empty their buddy bags and kitchen pails when they take out their garbage.
Be sure to keep recycle and compost containers in addition to garbage containers in common areas such as the lobby, club house, mail room or laundry room. This way you reduce the chance of contamination.
Make sure that your Recycle, Compost and Garbage carts and bins are clearly labeled with instructions for what items go into which containers. You can download free Recycle, Compost and Garbage posters below or contact us and we'll get you some.

- Recycle, Compost and Garbage signs
These signs display what materials should and should not be placed in each of the three containers. They can be printed and posted in a visible area above your containers so your employees, customers or tenants know what goes where.

Spread the Word
Provide information to your neighbors and residents on an ongoing basis about recycling and composting, and keep them informed about any changes. Use multiple means of getting the message out: tenant meetings, e-letters and signage near the recycling bins and in common areas. Provide recycling information to all new residents when they move in. Recycling messages should be simple, clear, accurate, and consistent.
Consider designating a "Recycling Captain."
Volunteers can act as Building or Floor Captains who help educate residents in their building or on their floors about the programs, answer questions, and help build a "team effort" atmosphere. They can also help out by checking recycling containers for contaminants and help residents who have difficulty carrying recyclables to the collection area.
